NATIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE On September 17, 1998 Roberts Manufacturing Co. attained ISO 9002 Certification and did it in a nine month time frame, having started the process in January 1998. The importance of ISO stems from customer demand for quality products and services, which means that companies must adhere to strict standards of operation. Procedures must be continuously maintained and updated to ensure that customers receive a consistent quality product every time. This provides repeat customer satisfaction, develops brand loyalty while reinforcing customer confidence in the manufacturer. ISO standards in effect promote the ideology "DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME" Roberts benefits economically as a result of reduced wastage through the re?working of products. Productivity is increased as employees participate in the maintenance and updating of ISO procedures through regular audits. Reduced cost means a better price to our customers. In addition companies that use our products as ingredients expect consistent quality because they have to meet the expectations of their customers and will therefore feel confident in purchasing from an ISO certified organization. Although ISO 9002 is not required for entry into foreign markets, many corporations around the world see it as essential for conducting business and improving competitiveness. This is especially pertinent for a company like Roberts, who at present export 60% of its margarine and shortening products and is rapidly moving towards increasing present exports to Extra Regional Countries. Moreover as the countries of this region move towards an open market, manufacturing companies like Roberts face the challenge of staying competitive in the market place. ISO certification presents companies like Roberts with the foundation of competing with the transitional corporations whose products are perceived to be better because of their advertising and marketing strategies. |
