Broiler Growing Requirements
Floor Space Place 11 - 18 birds per square metre ( 0.6 - 1.0 sq. ft. per bird) depending on size of bird to be grown
Waterer Requirements Provide 154 litre (1 gal.) chick founts per 1,000 chicks for the first two weeks. Thereafter 2.0 cm. (3/4") per bird for automatic trough type. Allow one bell type for 100 birds.
Feeder Space The first week, one feeder lid (plastic or corrugated) per 100 chicks. Thereafter, provide sufficient trough type feeder per 12 birds per 30 cm. (1 foot) calculating both sides of trough. For pan or tube type feeders, allow 50 - 60 birds per pan.
Brooder Space Approximately 500 to 1,000 chicks per hover. Where central heating systems are used, allow 22 birds per square metre or .5 square feet per chick within brooding area.
Brooder Temperature 32oC - 35oC (90oF - 95oF) initially. Reduce approximately 3.0oC (5oF) per week to normal temperature.
Brooder Guards Approximately 45 cm. (18") high, placed 61 - 152 cm. (24 - 60") from hover edge depending on type of brooder and season of the year. Corrugated cardboard, masonite or hardwood cloth 1.3 cm. (1/2") mesh are normally used.
Litter When replacing, use clean, dry, absorbent litter, free of mould. Maintain good litter conditions.  Spread new litter 5 cm. (2") deep.
Ventilation Provide adequate air movement to maintain bird comfort and good litter conditions
